Aubrey Jackson “Jack” Selby passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 after a short battle with cancer. Jack was born on December 5, 1934 in Newport News, VA to Aubrey Jeter Selby and Mary Swindell Selby Shavender. Jack grew up in Newport News and graduated from Newport News High School in 1952. He began his career as an electrical apprentice with Smith & Keene Electrical contractor in Newport News and later moved to Jonesboro, GA to head up their operations there. He eventually opened his own electrical company and after retiring from his business he went to work for DeKalb County as their chief electrical Inspector. He served in the Army at Fort Bliss Missile Base in El Paso, TX as a Nike Missile Instructor for three years. Jack was a member of Cokes Chapel United Methodist Church in Sharpsburg, GA.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Moore Selby; mother-in-law, Mary Frances Moore of Montgomery, AL; brother-in-law, Mike Moore of Montgomery, AL; sisters-in-law, Molly (Howard) Shafferman, of Arlington, VA and Lee (David) Cleveland of Scottsdale, AZ. He is also survived by his nieces, Gail Caffey Lee & Linda Caffey White of Newport News, VA, Kerie Brown, Lanie Bowlin, Chaney Shafferman; nephews, John David Cleveland, Will Shafferman; and special friends, Lynn Yeager, Lisa Hannah and Floyd Carmack.

He is preceded in death by his father, Aubrey Selby; mother, Mary Shavender; stepmother, Emma “Nannie” Selby; sister, Mary Van Rife Caffey; grandmother, Sally Swindell; his loving aunts, Betty Swindell, Mabel Swindell, Alma Swindell; uncles, Jefferson Swindell, Elliott Swindell, Sam Swindell and Claude Swindell all of Englehard, NC; and his father-in-law, Bill Moore of Montgomery, AL.

Throughout his life, Jack was admired and loved for his outgoing and giving personality. He was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. He found great satisfaction in helping those in need and was always a generous man. He leaves many close friends that will miss him dearly.
