Ashton DeGrief, 85, formerly of Logansport, passed away at 11:04 p.m., on Thursday, August 10, 2017, in Aperion Care, Peru.

Born on July 6, 1932, he was the son of John Ashton and Ellouise Coppock DeGrief.

On October 26, 1963, he was married to Sharon Smith.  They were wed for 45 years.  She survives, residing in Logansport.

A 1950 graduate of Logansport High School, Ashton had been a general contractor, builder and draftsman. He and his wife created the Eastwood Estates and the Long Tree Lane boulevard east of the city.

Ashton was the superintendent for the 1970’s expansion of Logansport High School and the hospital in Monticello following the tornado in 1974, to name only a few of his many projects.  

He was a member of the Logansport Elks.

Surviving are children, Steve Smith, Arcadia, Christi (Mike) Scott, Fort Myers, Fla., Jane (Tom) Lytle, Lake Cicott, Jennifer (Losh) Voigt, Oak View, Cal.

Preceding in death was a sister, Dianne Hoffman.
