Arthur “Shorty” Lee Porter, Jr., 57, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Home & Hospice Care of RI, Providence, RI. He was born on June 2, 1957 in Providence, RI, a son of the late Arthur Lee Porter, Sr., and the late Dorothy Mae (Brown) Porter. Arthur was the husband of Judy (Jett) Porter.

Arthur served in the US Army as a supply clerk in Fort Hood Texas from 1978 to 1980. Upon his discharge from the Army, he came back to Providence, and became a volunteer/speaker for the Aids awareness program and also volunteered for the Veteran’s Administration Hospital. He gave his heart to the Lord Jesus Christ and became a member of The Oakland Avenue Church of Christ in 1990.

Shorty as he was well known to his family and friends enjoyed a lifetime of happiness. He loved music and dancing to the likes of James Brown, Parliament/Funkadelic, Bootsy’s Rubber Band, The Commodores, Brass Construction, ConFunkshun, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five and several other recording artists.

He is survived by his wife Judy (Jett) Porter, his only son Brandon C. Simms, 2 granddaughters, Titianna and Tionmacile (of Providence), 2 brothers, Curtis L. Maxie (of Pawtucket), Anthony K. Porter, Sr., (of Cranston), several nieces and nephews, as well as many other family and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by siblings Joyce A. James, Charles E. Porter, Cleophus B. Maxie Sr. and Ronald L. Murphy.
