Arthur Robert Eric Broadbent, a 23-year Ridgewood resident, has passed away at the age of 62. Local police officers found Broadbent in his home on Friday, April 15th, at the request of concerned family members and friends. The cause of death is awaiting final determination, but he had suffered from diabetes and obesity for several years.
Arthur was born in Barrington, RI and raised in Hamden, CT. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Yale University before earning a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. He then devoted his 29-year career to J.P. Morgan’s investment banking business, eventually serving the Bank by architecting computer programs that processed its most complicated transactions. His programs were considered the best on Wall Street.
Known as Art to most people, Broadbent had a jovial, almost childlike goofiness that endeared him to others. His honesty and humility were greatly admired. He loved beyond measure his wife, Wendy, and their three adult children, Katie, John, and Sarah. In addition to this immediate family, he is survived by his mother, Janet Geraci Broadbent, and his sister, Lucie, and her family of Manolis, Nikos and Marianna.
In retirement, the father of 3 enjoyed time with his family and devotedly practicing his choral repertoire. He was a tenor in the Ridgewood Singers (serving as one of its Presidents) and the adult choir of St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church. He also assumed various leadership positions within St. Elizabeth’s, including as a member of the Vestry and former chair of the Outreach Committee.
