Arthur Gene Clifford, Sr. passed peacefully on June 3, 2011 with his children by his side in Huntsville, AL. He was a resident of Guntersville having moved there in 2007 from Birmingham. Born in Birmingham on Sept. 3, 1930, he grew up in Talladega. He went on to attend the University of Alabama and received his doctorate’s degree in dentistry in 1955 and became very accomplished and respected in the field of fixed prosthetic dentistry.

Arthur Gene entered the U.S. Army, retiring as a Colonel in 1976 whereupon he was awarded the Legion of Merit. He went on to head the graduate program in Fixed Prosthodontics at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. He retired from UAB in 1989 and went on to travel extensively and pursue his passion for landscaping among many other interests.

He was a quiet and modest man who touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity. Art loved life, the outdoors, traveling, gardening, dancing and being with his loved ones. He never met a yard he didn’t like and his craftsmanship and masonry skills in landscaping can be seen throughout Alabama and the United States at the homes of his friends and loved ones.

He is forever remembered by his beloved children Arthur Gene Jr. and his wife Karen of Sedalia, CO; Camilla Lynn of Nashville; and Charles Leonard of Stevenson Ranch, CA; treasured grandchildren Clifford, Ashley and Courtney; his long time girlfriend, Gay Rutherford of Guntersville, AL and special cousin Martha Frances of Fredericksburg, TX and cousin Pete Clifford of Birmingham. Countless other friends and family were blessed to know him. Arthur Gene was pre-deceased by his devoted parents L.E. and Lorene Clifford and infant brother Leonard Eugene, Jr.

A memorial marker will be placed next to his loving parents, Leonard Eugene and Lorene Clifford at Pine Hill Memorial Park in Talladega.
