Arthur “Pete” Alan Hathway, 90, of Mansfield Center, CT passed away peacefully Friday morning March 3, 2017. He was born on June 30, 1926, in Staten Island, New York, to the late Randal F. and Ida B. Hathway. He grew up in Thomaston CT, graduated from Thomaston High School and entered the Army Air Corps where he served from 1944 to 1946. He graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1951 and married the love of his life, Barbara. He was recalled to the Air Force during the Korean conflict.  He remained in the Air Force Reserves for 20 years and retired as a Major. He was a co-owner of Darmet Corporation in Providence, RI for 30 years.

Pete had many interests. He was active in restoring and enjoying antique cars and was a member of several vintage car clubs. His pride and joy was a 1928 Chevy Beach Wagon which he completely restored.  He also enjoyed building and flying radio controlled air planes and was a member of the NEDS club.  He was an enthusiastic fan and supporter of UConn Athletics, having season tickets for men’s basketball since l960 until just recently.  Like many others, he delighted in the achievements of the women’s basketball program and was fortunate to attend four of the Final Four championships.

Pete is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara (Nodine) Hathway, his daughter Cheryl Hathway of Windham, CT and his daughter-in-law Pamela Hathway of Windham, NH, five grandchildren Monica Pehowdy (Larry), Justin Smith (Meagan), Lindsey Weaver (Erin), Eric Hathway (Marcela), and Jared Hathway. He also leaves ten great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his son Jeffrey and his daughter Alison.

Pete was a very special man who dearly loved his country and his family, and he will be greatly missed.
