Arlie Franklin Culp, Jr., 91, of Ramseur, died Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Universal Health Care in Ramseur.

Arlie was a native of Stanly County, a graduate of Badin High School and Catawba College. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II and served as a crew member on a Navy patrol bomber as an aerial gunner. After the war, Arlie married Daisy Mae Farlow of Randleman, his wife of forty seven years until the Lord called her home in 1997. He was a resident of Ramseur where he worked as a teacher at Ramseur High School. Arlie also served as a Public Health Sanitarian for the Randolph County Health Department and as a Soil and Water Conservationist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 25 years. After retirement, Arlie was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives where he served for eighteen years. He was very active in his community serving in the Jaycees, Rotary Club, Boy Scouts, Senior Adults, and other boards and committees. Arlie was a member of Jordan Memorial United Methodist Church in Ramseur, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason at the Marietta Lodge 444 in Ramseur. Arlie was also preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Ellen Culp, parents, Mary Smith and Arlie Franklin Culp, Sr., sisters, Hazelene, Frances, Dorothy, and Lorene. Arlie was a true and loyal friend.

Survivors: sister, Mary Culp Spires, of Charlotte, numerous nieces, nephews, and faithful friend and companion, Sally Breedlove, of Ramseur.
