Arlene May Forkel, 86, of Salem, died at 3:07 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012 at the Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio. She was born April 5, 1926 in Wellsville, Ohio, the daughter of the late Daniel and Edith (Maloney) McElroy. She had been employed as a crossing guard at the Reilly School location for 42 years, retiring in 2007. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Salem and was also a member of the Salem AMVETS Post #45 Ladies Auxiliary. Her husband, Frank Forkel, whom she married April 18, 1947, preceded her in death October 23, 1998. An infant son, Paul Forkel; son, Rick Forkel; brother, Robert McElroy and two sisters, her twin, Allene Forkel and Donna Farmer Hanna also preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, Dan Forkel of Salem and Frank (Sue) Forkel of Salem; a daughter, Cindy (Edward) Kane of Salem; two sisters, Delores Geseman of Salem and Joyce Lakey of Lisbon; five grandchildren, Jason Forkel, Amy Alix, Hilary Zeigler, Bob Fitzpatrick and Jonathan Kane; and two great-grandchildren.
