Antonio Munoz was born on September 17, 1932 to Guillermo Munoz and Eglantina Alvarado in Villa Ignacio Ramirez, Durango, Mexico. He had two brothers, Bacilio Munoz, Frutuoso Munoz and one sister, Maria Esperanza Munoz. With little opportunity for an education, Antonio was working by age 6 to help support his family; they farmed the land where they lived and raised beans and corn. He came from Mexico to Colorado to provide a good life for himself and his family by not giving up and following his dreams. In 1949 he came to Colorado to work in the beet fields. Great Western Sugar was a growing company and it needed migrants to thin the beets.
Antonio knew that Colorado was where he wanted to spend the rest of his life; he fell in love with the state. He wanted to begin his life here and learn English. He found work in the beet fields, worked on the vegetable farms and picked fruit. He met and married his wife, Emilia, in 1952. To this union were born four children, Antonio Jr., Martha, Marcos and Arthuro Munoz. He served his country and was inducted into the Army on November 15, 1955 and was honorably discharged November 16, 1961.
