Antoinette M. “Ann” Spencer, 90, residing in Elkhart, passed to her rest early Wednesday morning, June 26, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Ann, or “Auntie” as family and friends knew her, began her life on April 27, 1923, in Elkhart, one of eight daughters and a son born to the late Julius and Teresina (Fenimore) Campanello.

In addition to her parents, sisters Yolanda “Violet” Campanella, Juliette Ronzone, Elizabeth Montagano, Anna Campanello, Clara Eby and Mary Campanella, brother Gregory Campanello, and her faithful pet friend, Gertie, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her daughter, Debbie Nusbaum and husband Todd of Elkhart; grandsons Ross Nusbaum of Elkhart and Derek Nusbaum of Chicago; and a sister, Sandy Richardson and husband Bob of Elkhart.

Ann married William I. “Bill” Spencer on June 2, 1945 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. They celebrated more than 58 years of marriage before Bill passed away Feb. 26, 2004.

Ann retired from NIBCO. She also helped her brother Greg at Volcano Pizza for many years. Ann was a graduate of Elkhart High School and a long-time member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. She was a gracious host and loved to make sure everyone had enough to eat and take care of people. She was renowned for her chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies.
