Anthony D. Lombardo, 83

Colonie Anthony D. Lombardo, 83,of Colonie died suddenly, January 1,2005 at his winter residence in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Born in Troy New York on October 20, 1921,son of the late Dominic Lombardo Sr. and Stella Verrecchio. He attended School 10 and Troy High School, and served in the Navy during World War 2.

In 1950, with his late brother Dominic F. Lombardo, he entered into his first business adventure, which was Manory’s Luncheonette in Troy, New York, which they operated successfully until 1965. In 1959, the brothers purchased Paul’s Restaurant in Troy, which was a popular destination for shoppers, and the weekend dances upstairs for teens became legendary! At that time they also owned and operated the Polar Bar, which was an ice cream stand and miniature golf course on Main Avenue in Wynantskill. His biggest venture took place in1961, when he and his brother purchased the Airport Inn on Campbell Avenue in Troy. The Airport Inn later was known as Mario’s Theatre Restaurant. Mario’s grew to become one of the largest banquet facilities in the capital district, and thousands of brides will always remember their special day there with Tony by their side.

Tony also served as President of the Rensselaer county board of realtors in 1975, and as a two-term President of the Greater Troy Chamber of Commerce in 1976 and 1977. He served as Vice President and assistant chairman of the United Way, and served on the Board of Directors of the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society of Menands. He was President of the Holy Names Society of St Anthony’s Church in Troy when the new building was erected in 1964. Tony also enjoyed his membership in the Uncle Sam Toastmasters Club. He also owned Lombardo realty for many years, and was President of LomSur Company Inc. a real estate holding firm.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 54 years Helen Batza Lombardo, his son Dominic A. Lombardo (Robin) of Latham, his two daughters, Madeline Pelletier (Bob) of Schodack and Celine Bowman (Bill) of East Greenbush. He is survived by eight grandchildren Robert and John-Paul Pelletier, Helena, Heather and Dan. Bowman and David, Mark and Michael Lombardo. He is also survived by his great granddaughter Autumn Coons. His sisters Mary Lanzillo, Anne Rymanowski and Julie Crupi survive him. He was pre deceased by his brother Dominic F. Lombardo and sisters Madeline Suriano and Jennie Berger. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
