Antonino “Anthony” Bonanno of Burlington passed away at Lourdes Medical Center in Willingboro on May 20th at the age of 102.
He was born in New York, NY, but grew up in Sicily.
At the start of World War II, he came back to the United States, where he met the love of his life, Marie, and also entered the US Army, serving in the European Theater. After his dedicated years in the service, he had a career as a Class A Sheet Metal Mechanic with several companies including Piasecki, Vertol-Boeing and Ludwig-Honold Mfg., where he helped build helicopters and various items for the space program. In the 1930s, Anthony was a talented and successful bicycle racer in Sicily, and remained a life-long avid cyclist who could often be spotted on the roads of Burlington County on his racing bike. Another joy he had was maintaining his yard and his vegetable garden, and he will always be remembered by family and friends as an excellent cook.
Anthony was predeceased by a son, Frank Bonanno. He was also predeceased by his bride of 72 years, Marie (Nee: Gazzara), who passed away in February.
He is survived by his son Vince (Diane) Bonanno; daughter Camellia (Harry) Seals; grandchild Gina (Dan) Pye; great-grandson Aaron Pye and a number of beloved nieces and nephews.
