Annie Lackey Jones, of Lexington Avenue, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 4:40 a.m. Friday, May 5 in Regency Place of South Bend.
Annie was born July 31,1914, in Leighton, Alabama as the daughter of Elisha Frank Lackey and Mary Burnett-Lackey.
On Feb. 1, 1947, in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Annie married L. George Jones, who preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 1987.
Annie and George moved to South Bend on December 5, 1951.
Annie is survived by a son, Roger (Cathy) Jones of Niles, Michigan; a stepdaughter, Betty (Spencer) Austin of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; a sister, Sarah “Evie” Lackey-Mask of Sheffield, Alabama; two very special grandchildren, Joshua A. Jones and Amanda R. Jones of South Bend; four step-grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 24 nieces and nephews.
Annie was precede in death by three brothers, John Jackson Lackey, Robert Lackey, and Jessie Lackey; three sisters, Marybell Lackey-Nichols, Bama Lackey-Gargis, Oma Lackey-Kent; and four nieces and two nephews.
As a young woman, Annie worked in retail stores in Leighton, Alabama. She worked at Reynolds Aluminum in Muscle Shoals, Alabama during WWII. She also worked at Little Dutch Cleaners in South Bend for a short period of time. Most of her life she enjoyed being a homemaker.
The family would like to thank the people at Regency Place for their kindness and care during her stay there.
For many years Annie enjoyed attending church with her sister, Bama Gargis, her niece, Karen Cunningham, and her granddaughter, Amanda Jones, at the West Side Church of Christ in South Bend.
