Annie Bell Franklin was born on July 12, 1915, in Elmore City, Oklahoma to her parents, Henderson Williams and Estella “Stella” StevensonWilliams. She was the tenth child of ten children born in the family. She was raised surrounded by her brothers, St. Paul, Clay, Dillard, Dorsey and her sisters, Izora”Redd”, Eliza, Amanda, Edna and Jesse. When she was seven, she started learning how to cook alongside her mother. Those early lessons would prove helpful for the rest of her life. She received her early education by attending school in Elmore City, Oklahoma. Annie united in holy matrimony to the Bealie Franklin on March 10, 1935. The couple first met when they both lived in Oklahoma. To this union, two beautiful children, Deola and Maurice were born. Annie was a devoted wife and loving mother. Deola fondly reflects, “my parents were number one; if I had to choose all over again, I would choose them.” The family shared many happy and precious moments together. Maurice preceded her in death in 1996. Annie and Bealie were married, 78 years when Bealie preceded her in death on April 24, 2013. Annie was a homemaker whose pride and joy was the care and nurture of her family. She was an excellent cook who was known for making the best hog head cheese, canned pickles and chaw chaw in town. Annie was the matriarch of the Franklin Family. She was blessed to see six generations during her lifetime. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and a great great great grandmother. She found great pride and joy in the sharing with her family during birthdays, births, weddings, family reunions and other special events and activities. She helped raise all them and was a caregiver to a special needs child.
