Anne Gambal Cox, 81, of 1271 N. Main St., died at 8:50 a.m. Monday (Oct. 2, 2006) after an extended illness, at the home of her daughter, with whom she had been residing.

She was born Dec. 17, 1924, in Greenville, Miss., to Henry F. and Mittie Atelle (Cowan) Gambal. She is survived by three daughters, Abigail “Abby” Cox Kohler of Madisonville, La., Amy Sue Cox of Elkhart and Lisa Cox Lucket of Greenville; one son, Matthew Gambal Cox of Henderson, Nev.; and 12 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Julie Anne Cox.

Mrs. Cox spent most of her life in the Greenville area, working as a bookkeeper for the various river tow-boat companies which worked on the Mississippi River transporting barges. She enjoyed TV game shows as well as watching the Boston Pops and Lawrence Welk, as classical and band music were her favorites.

Mrs. Cox was an avid animal enthusiast and enjoyed the company of her four cats. She was a member of First Church of Christ Scientists.
