Mrs. Anne Bower Cross, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on July, 16 2009 at Emerald Coast Nursing Center after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Cross was born September 7, 1924 in Savannah, Georgia, the only child of Marie H. and Robert Edward Bower Jr. Anne was in the Class of 1946 at Florida State College for Women (FSU), Tallahassee, Florida and a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She received a degree in music from Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts. Anne met and married Richard Cross in 1945 when he was a pilot stationed in Tallahassee during WWII. Anne taught first grade at Edwins Elementary School in Ft. Walton Beach, public school in Oklahoma as well as teaching private piano lessons.
Surviving are her loving and devoted husband of sixty-three years, Richard L. Cross; three sons, Richard L. Cross, Jr. and wife Barbara, of Columbia, SC, Ronald E. Cross and wife Cindy, of Ft. Walton Beach, Robert B. Cross of Tallahassee; eight grandchildren, Jamie Anne and husband Derek, Joseph, Stephen, Marie, Karen and husband James, Amanda, Nicole, Brent and wife, Karen; four great-grandchildren, Sedonah, Mateo, Madelyn Anne and Morrison. The family wishes to thank the staff at Emerald Coast Nursing Center and Covenant Hospice for their loving care and support.
