Annabelle Miester peacefully passed away on December 28, 2014. She was born 105 1/2 years ago in Plaquemine, LA. She was the daughter of Aline David and Randall Robertson. She is preceded in death by her son David and her husband Harry Elmer. She is a descendant of General James Robertson who was the founder of Tennessee.
She is survived by her grandson Randall Miester (Ashley) and her daughter in law Adrienne Luc Miester, nephews Alvin (Jill) and Carl (Aimee) Miester and their children Emma, Sam, Gracie, Evan, Mattie, and Annabelle. She is also survived by Shirley Jackson and Laura Miester.
The family would like to thank the Staff at Chateau De Notre Dame for the years they cared for her. Special thanks go to Mrs. Lee, Ruby Martin, Althea and Shante.
Mrs. Miester was a teacher and administrator in the Orleans Parish Public Schools for over 45 years.
She is mentioned in many books (including recently published A will of her own –Sarah Towels Reed and the Pursuit of Democracy in Southern Public Education by Leslie Parr) which cite that in 1936 she filed a suit against the New Orleans School Board so that married females would be allowed to teach. Her case went to the Louisiana Supreme Court which ruled in her favor.
Mrs. Miester was a member/office holder of the following organizations: United Daughters of the Confederacy, Colonial Dames, U.S. Daughters of 1812, Freedoms Foundation, Louisiana Colonials, Daughters of the American Revolution, Poydras Home Aux., Chateau de Notre Dame Aux., New Orleans Teachers Association, and LA Teachers Association, Baton Rouge Genealogical Society.
