Anna S. Robb “Mrs. Mansfield Center” MANSFIELD – Anna S. Robb, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on November 9, 2006, surrounded by her loving family. She was 92. Born in Manchester, CT on May 10, 1914, Ann was the daughter of Michael and Katherine (Fedor) Sacherek, the fourth of eight children and the wife of the late Willard Robb. Willard and Ann made their first home in Manchester where they ran the Robb Grocery Store on Center Street. While in Manchester, they had their three beloved daughters, Elizabeth Ann and twins Catherine Ann and Carolyn Ann. In 1957, Willard and Ann purchased Barrows and Burnham General Store and moved their family to Mansfield Center, CT. They quickly became an important part of the community. After Willard’s death in 1964, Ann continued to run the store on her own. Ann loved people and enjoyed talking with her many customers. They often asked her for advice and recipes as they picked up their groceries. All of her grandchildren enjoyed playing at the store, but she was also “Grandma Robb” to the children who stopped in for penny candy and soda straight from the old Coca-Cola cooler. New mothers brought their babies to be weighed on the store’s meat scales. The sight of Ann in her white butcher’s coat with her blue eyes twinkling greeted thousands of people over the years. When Ann retired in 1997 at the age of 83, the town lost one of its social centers.
