Ann P. Williams of Alexandria, VA, passed away on September 2, 2022. A native of Petersburg, IL, Ann was a graduate of Oberlin College and Case Western University Hospital of Cleveland with a degree in Medical Technology. She moved to the Washington area in 1960 and had resided in Alexandria since 1969.
Ann was known for her perpetual optimism, fierce intellect, active curiosity, sense of humor, and enduring love of animals. She was a life-long gardener and dedicated wildlife rehabilitator. She possessed an intrepid and fearless spirit, never hesitating to help those in need. Ann and her husband were among the group who founded ALIVE Inc. in Alexandria.
Working as a medical technologist at Arlington Hospital for many years, her real passion was as a preschool music teacher, delighting in introducing young children to the beauty of music from the 1970s until 2020. She continually pursued new challenges and interests throughout her life, exploring interests as varied as immunology classes at the National Institutes of Health, learning to bevel glass, and stained and fused glass, quilting, and making artwork in neon.
The daughter of M. Dale Peterson and Ruth Withrow Peterson of Petersburg, IL, Ann is survived by her husband of sixty-two years Harrison B. Williams, daughter Julie Arrighetti, son-in-law Craig Arrighetti, grandson Nicholas Arrighetti, and son-in law Todd Smyth. She was preceded in death by her daughter Joy Ann Williams and sister Judith Peterson Gardner.
