Ann L. Murphy, 73, of Spirit Lake, passed away Friday, July 4, 2008, at her home in Spirit Lake. She was born on May 27, 1935, in Estherville, Iowa, to John and Bernice (Symens) Lyman.
Ann was raised in Estherville, and graduated from Estherville High School in 1953. She was vice-president of her class and graduated cum laude and was a member of the cheer leading squad. She enjoyed many summers at their cottage on Big Spirit Lake.
Ann furthered her education at Carlton College in Northfield, Minnesota, and graduated in 1957, with a major in history. From there, she moved to Wausau, Wisconsin, and was employed as a systems analyst and trainer for Employers Mutual of Wausau.
Ann met her future husband in Wausau, and in 1959, she was united in marriage to Ensign David A. Murphy at the Naval Air Station Chapel in Corpus Christie, Texas. After moving to Moffet Field NAS in Mountian View, California, Ann and David were blessed with three children.
