Anita Ruth (Goodman) Copeland, 91, Peru, died the evening of April 29, 2018, in Illinois Valley Community Hospital after a brief stay. Mrs. Copeland was born December 28, 1926, in La Salle to Walter and Ruth (Snow) Goodman. Raised by her grandparents, Edward and Hilda (Radtke) Snow, she was educated in the Peru Public Schools and graduated from La Salle-Peru Township High School in 1944. She attended La Salle-Peru-Oglesby Junior College. On May 14, 1949, Mrs. Copeland married Richard B. Copeland of Jefferson, Wisconsin.
They made their home in Chicago. He preceded her in death on April 26, 1979. She continued to live in Chicago where she cared for her mother. Following her mother’s death, Mrs. Copeland moved to Liberty Village of Peru in 2002. Mrs. Copeland will long be remembered for her signature red eyeglasses, the merry twinkle in her eye, her terrific sense of humor, intelligence, fierce independence, determination, and zest for life. She was a voracious reader of mysteries, a master of crossword puzzles, and was always well versed in current events. Mrs. Copeland is survived by numerous cousins including Lois (Alvin) Radtke Smith and Tyler (Dianne), George, and Eric (Andrea) Goodman and their sons, as well as many dear friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Copeland was preceded in death by her cousins Edmund “Sonny” Goodman in 1946 and Tyler Goodman in 2010.
