Andrew “Sonny” Matrano, age 91, passed away January 19, 2022. Sonny was predeceased by his parents Andrea & Amelia Marturano, sister Mary, brother Joseph, and daughter Emily Matrano. Sonny was born in Elizabeth, NJ. and later moved to South Toms River in 1962.

He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.

Sonny worked in construction for the Operating Engineers, Local 825 as a Heavy Equipment Operator. His most notable project as Head Crane Operator was on the construction of the westbound J. Stanley Tunney Bridge.

Sonny married his wife Joan in 1955, and they were able to celebrate a 66th wedding anniversary. Sonny enjoyed having people visit his house share meals and make all feel welcome.

Sonny liked listening to music after the evening meals, as well as watching humorous videos after Sunday dinners. He enjoyed working on household and automotive projects in his workshop and garage. He always provided for his family and helped family members in need. Sonny led his life with decency and encouraged all of his family to do the same. Sonny was a strong man but was still very warm and loving. He was loved by all of his family and will be greatly missed.

Sonny is survived by his beloved wife Joan, his sisters Virginia and Emily Matrano, their children Andrew, Tony, wife Sheila, Carolyn and husband Bob Jersey and Mary Ann Matrano, their grandchildren Melinda & Janette McLean, Derek McLean wife Kaely, Robert Jersey, Dana Gere husband Pat, Tara & Antonio Matrano and their great-grandchildren Jimmy Brooks, Michael & Mila McLean, Tony & Jasmine Gere.
