Andrew Dennis Carter

WEST POINT – Andrew Dennis Carter, 82, passed away quietly on Thursday morning, November 17, 2016, at 4:38 a.m., surrounded by his family. Andy was born on June 18, 1934, son of Lincoln and Edna Alice Carter, in Mineral Bluff, Georgia. They moved to Murphy, NC, and lived there 18 years. He later moved to Detroit, MI, after graduating from Murphy High School, in 1953. Eight years later he moved to Burbank, CA.

He married Ann Bear on August 7, 1961. Then they moved to Granada Hills, CA in October 1970. They raised 3 children. The UAW Union transferred him to Clearfield in May 1979 to work as an instructor at the Clearfield Job Corp program. He worked for the UAW Automotive Program training young students to work on engines, overhauling cars and other work on automobiles.

He retired October 6, 1996. He went that same week to Blairsville, GA, to be with his ailing mother. He stayed there, taking care of her from October 6, 1996 to November 24, 1997, when she passed away.

He was a member of A.A. in Burbank, CA for 14 years. When he moved to Ogden, UT, he became a member of the Ogden Alano Club for 37 years. A total of 51 years, 8 months of sobriety. He sponsored many people throughout those years, and he enjoyed every minute of it. He loved helping others.

Andy was an avid golfer. He spent many years golfing with his many friends. He would put together week long golf trips to South Carolina with friends, also Yuma, Arizona and Phoenix, and for many years he put together golf tournaments (3 times a year) in Wendover, NV, known as “The Andy Carter Golf Tournament”.

Andy is survived by his wife, Ann; his children Farrell Eugene Bear of Glendale, CA, Melodie Ann (Bear) Barajas, Granada Hills, CA, Sterling Bran Carter, West Point; grandchildren, Pedro Barajas III (Pete), LaVerne, CA, Andress Antonio Barajas, Granada Hills, CA, Sarina Louise Barajas, Granada Hills, CA.
He is also survived by his sisters, Linda Pulliam (Jim), GA, Brenda Hamby and son, Alan, GA nephews, Jonathan Pulliam, his wife and children, Matthew Pulliam and his wife and son, Jackson, GA.,.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lincoln and Edna Carter, brother, Randall Carter, Blairsville, GA, sister, Doreatha, Long Branch, NY, brother Roger, Benton, TN, brother -in-laws Jack Hamby and Doug Hamby.
