Andrew (Andy) Skorniak, 79, of Brule, passed away Wednesday July 6, 2022 in Sterling, Colorado. 

Andrew L. Skorniak was born on May 3, 1943 in Loup City, NE to Edward and Salomea (Wojtalewicz) Skorniak.  Andrew grew up on a farm near Ashton, NE and he attended the County School District 56, until he began attending Ashton District 16 and then St. Francis Catholic school  for his elementary years.  In 1961 Andrew graduated from District 16 Ashton High School.

 After graduation, Andrew worked for many area farmers and then Bushman Construction Co. until he enlisted into the Air Force on October 4, 1962.  He was stationed at Lockland Air Force Base until be transferred to Southeast Asia.  He was in Asia until his return to Travis Air Force Base in California where he was discharged on October 3, 1966, making his home in Fairfield CA, where he worked for the Navy.

Andrew moved to Omaha, NE in 1964 and he worked various jobs while he attended school at CE School of Commerce.  Andrew moved around from state to state over the next few years.  He made his home in Grand Island, NE. in 1972 and began working for the Defense Plant.  In 1977, Andrew moved to Wallace, NE and started working for  a construction company that was building the Sutherland Power Plant. Later in 1977, Andrew made his home in Ogallala, NE working for the city for a short time, before he moved to Brule, NE in 1979 and went to work for the Village of Brule until his retirement in 2019.

Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, his infant sister Mary and one son Shawn who passed away in 1997.

His survivors include his son Steven Skorniak of Omaha, NE. and a brother Robert (Judy) Skorniak of Loup City, NE.

A memorial has been established to VFW Post 3755 of Ogallala.
