Alvin “Lee” Saunders, age 69, died peacefully on Saturday morning, April 6, 2013 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo, MI. Lee was born on August 23, 1943 in Kalamazoo, MI, a son of Verlyn H. and Jean Harris Saunders. He graduated from Mattawan High School in 1962.
Lee worked for over 30 years at Eckrich before retiring and recently at his brother’s greenhouse business. Lee will be remembered as a hard-working man who loved his family. He enjoyed spending his free time fishing, bowling, golfing, deer hunting, woodworking and gardening. Lee was preceded in death by his father, Verlyn Saunders.
Surviving are: his fiancée, Thelma Jo Treadwell of Battle Creek; four children, Scott Saunders, Jeff Tricia Saunders of Tampa, FL, Pam Saunders and her fiancé, Ben Stewart, of Kalamazoo and Kim Kyle Knickerbocker of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren, David, Scott Jr., Rachael, Kyle, Delaney, Justin, Ella and Leah; a great-granddaughter, Sophie; his mother, Jean Saunders of Schoolcraft; a brother, Bill Vicki Saunders of Mattawan; a sister, Yvonne Joe Gabb of Mattawan; and several nieces and nephews.
