Alvie L. Baxter, the son of Leon B. and M. Ella (Schoonover) Baxter, was born September 9, 1919 in Johnson County, Missouri. At the age of nine he and his family moved to Newton, Iowa.
On December 18, 1941, Alvie was united in marriage to Ruth A. Dodd in Lancaster, Missouri. He worked as a carpet installer for Pierce Furniture of Newton for 23 years. After Pierce Furniture closed, Alvie worked for Newton Schools as a custodian and retired in 1984. He was a devoted husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa who also enjoyed getting away for a while to do a little fishing.
Alvie was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, Charles Malloy, Sr., his four brothers, three sisters, five step-brothers, and his step-sister. Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Ruth; his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Karla Baxter of Newton; his five daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Ron Murray of Newton, Diana and Lynn “Hutch” Hutchins of Warrensburg, Missouri; LaNora “Tink” and Jack Pendroy of Kansas City, Missouri; Teresa and Kelvin Schultz of Newton; Vicki and Ed Moore of Newton; his sixteen grandchildren; his eleven great-grandchildren; his step-brother, Charles Malloy, Jr. of Moline, Illinois; and his two step-sisters, Betty Fowler of Des Moines, Iowa and Clara Vander Zyl of Louisiana.
