Alva H. Zander-Giroux, nee Mandelkow, age 96, of Thornton, IL passed away Sunday, November 25, 2012.
Beloved wife of the late Amos Zander, loving mother of Karen Zander and Vern Zander, dear grandmother of 5, great-grandmother of 13 and great-great grandmother of 3; fond sister of the late Betty Mandelkow, the late Hazel Botteman, and Neal Mandelkow.
Alva was a retired secretary for the superintendent at Wolcott School in Thornton. She was a member of the Lutheran Women”s Missionary League and a member of the Thornton Historical Society. Her interests included gardening, oil painting, travel, reading and playing the piano. She particularly enjoyed talking to elementary school age children about what school was like when she was young.
