Alta Burke was born on December 22, 1936 to her parents Edward Leo and Georgia (Floyd) Esry of Moberly. She graduated from Moberly High School in 1955 where she was a member of the choir. She moved out to California in the late 1950’s and met her husband Otto U. Skinner Jr, and had two children Linda and Mark Skinner in 1961 and 1962. Alta and her family moved back to Missouri in 1966 where the family spent the next 20 years near the areas of Huntsville and Moberly Missouri, including living in Walt Disney’s boyhood home and farm in Marceline in the early 1970’s.
Alta worked as a waitress and caring for children. She married Wilson C. Burke in 1985 and they have lived the last 30+ years in their home in Moberly. Alta loved all kinds of music and Gospel and Country were her two favorite genres. Alta and Wilson made many trips to Branson Missouri as one of their favorite places to travel. She also loved spending time on her patio in their park-like back yard and entertaining family and guests.
Alta was a very proud and loving Mother, Grandmother as well as a Great-Grandmother. She is survived by her husband Wilson of Moberly, her two children Linda and husband Mark Reid of Newburgh, IN, Mark Skinner and wife Mayda of Raymore, MO, her three grandchildren Shelley Gann and husband Adam and Mackenzie Weaver both of Evansville, IN, Jason Skinner, and wife Haley of Belton, MO, and great-granddaughter Adalyn Gann of Evansville, IN. She is also survived by her brother Edward Leon Esry, nephews Chris Esry, Scott Esry and wife Marla, all of Atlanta, GA, five stepchildren Jody Burke, Jerry Burke and wife Cindy all of Memphis, TN, Judy Apphaun and husband Kenny, Julie Bruno all of Denver, CO, and Jim Burke of Moberly, 14 step-children, several step-great-grandchildren.
