Alma Noemi Castellano Hurd of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on July 2, 2014 at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, she was born on March 22, 1951 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Francisco Castellano and Casimira (Carmelina) Rodriguez Malave de Castellano of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and one son, Bryan Mathew Laudig of Lake City, FL.

She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Donald Michael Hurd of Jacksonville, FL; one son Jason Christopher Laudig of Charlotte, NC, a sister Ruth C Smith of West Jefferson, NC, four nephews: Timothy N Smith, Christopher T Smith and Hernesto Castellano of Charlotte, NC, and Urayoan Castellano of New Jersey; and several grandnephews.

During her life she worked as a Medical Lab Tech, a Certified Nurse’s Assistance, in Personal Nurse Care, as a Teacher’s Assistant, a retail store clerk and in commercial aircraft maintenance.

She loved most of all entertaining family and friends with delicious meals and good fellowship. Her interests included music, movies, fishing, sewing and exploring. She was an avid FSU Football fan.

She will be remembered for being a wonderful mother and wife, a spark of sunshine with a bubbly and optimistic personality that touched many lives. Her Christian faith carried her through many of life’s storms and in her passing leaves us a sparkle of light to inspire us to enjoy life to the fullest, as she did.
