Allen Ray Bast, 74 years, of rural Virginia, IL died Monday evening, March 5, 2007 at Heritage Manor East in Beardstown, IL.
He was born December 14, 1932 in Cass County, IL; the son of Frank H. and Esther S. Houston Bast.
He is survived by four daughters, Debbie Smith (companion, Sam Nation) of Bath, Gail Riggins (husband, Bill) of Pleasant Plains, Kathi Armstrong of Ashland, and Jackie Blakeman (husband, Michael) of Wichita Falls, TX; a son, Terry Bast (wife, Barb) of Atlanta; 8 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a brother, Edwin Bast (wife, Anita) of Hillside; a sister, Frances Haba of Marengo; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Bast was a 1952 graduate of Virginia High School and served with the US Army from 1954 to 1956. He was employed 29 years at Capitol Records (later EMI) in Jacksonville from where he retired in 1994. He assisted Melvin Ring with his farming operation in rural Virginia and provided bulldozing work in the area. He formerly attended the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia.
