The union of William Lewis and Mildred Lucille Elmore gave us the welcoming of Allen Edward Elmore on November 4, 1950 in Chicago, IL (1555 Christiana Ave – west side). Mildred and William both preceded Allen in death.
As a child, Allen enjoyed going to the Old White Palace Theatre after church and swimming at the YMCA and Harvey Park with his family and friends. Allen had a special skill in fishing, playing sports and music. He was a percussionist at heart, and loved the congo drum. His favorite groups were Kool-n-the Gang, Dazz Band, and Santana. He attended every live concert he could (especially around birthday time). His passion for basketball, football and baseball was displayed in his youth and adulthood. He was a serious Chicago sports fan: Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and White Sox.
Siblings are William and Charlotte; step-siblings, Paulette, Tammy, Ricky, Butch (deceased) and Michael. He also enjoyed many talks with his stepfather, George Moore (deceased). During his time in Chicago, Allen had two sons, Tracy Evans (deceased) and Marcus A. Chapman (Laura).
Allen loved and learned a lot from his big brother, William “Billy.” He also had a special love and care for his baby sister, Charlotte. This learned compassion transitioned to caring for community and others in his own way, but this care and love slowly changed following the death of his mother in 1978 (Albuquerque, NM). Despite this change and the challenges and obstacles that came with it, Allen continued to enjoy his time with family and a good game of Dominoes, Bid Wiz, and Spades.
Allen attended Thornton Township High School and then went to the US Army Corps. Following his move to Albuquerque, he met and fell for Pratiw “Sue” Tostenson (Tena and James (Phoenix)). This union created Allena Lisa “Bundle” (deceased).
Allen grew to love his time with Mike (Tena) playing dominoes, listening to music (oldies) and watching time pass. Over the years, Allen grew to enjoy his children, grandchildren (Andre “Boogie,” Erik, Ysis, and Isaac), and those he loved. He leaves to morn his death, Andrecia (Kaiya), Lila and his Chicago grandchildren, Marcus Larenz, Duaja, Marshall, and Mariah; and a great-grandson, Kingston “Kingman,” and many other family members and friends, especially his lifelong best friends, Bernie Golden, Andre Scurlock, and Ben Blake (deceased).
Papa was his name, and making sure “All is well” was his game. You will be missed!
