Alice N. “Oma” Vercler, 94, of Washington passed away at 2:27 AM, Sunday February 19, 2017 at Snyder Village where she had been a resident for the last two years.

She was born in the Ukraine on March 4, 1922 in the Mennonite Village of Hierschau, the daughter of Franz and Katherine Thiessen Neufeld. She married Harold Vercler on September 14, 1947 in Paraguay. He passed away on March 29, 2015. Also preceding her in death were one brother and one sister.

Surviving are one son Rudy (Kaye) Vercler of Washington, two daughters Barbara (Russell) Roth of Morton and Mary Jane (Gary) Hendricker of Tallapoosa, Georgia. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

She attended German Schools in Russia and moved to Germany as a translator. After WWII, she moved with her family to Paraguay, South America where she met Harold, who worked for Mennonite Central Committee. After moving back to Washington, they lived all their married life on the farm in Washington and in the city of Washington after retirement.
