Alice H. Schurman (Hilt), 96, passed away at Saint Anthony Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on June 6, 2022.

Alice was born on May 21, 1926, in Lafayette, Indiana to the late Verne Dennis and Bessie May (Raisor) Hilt. She was the families third born child, following her brother Verne (deceased), sister Jayne (deceased) and leading the way for sister Suzanne (deceased) and baby sister Charlotte (Dinky) who survives her In Spokane, Washington.

Growing up, Alice was an avid reader and could recite pages of The White Cliffs by Alice Duer Miller.  After graduation from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1944, she married William Richard Schurman (deceased)

on October 30, 1943.  Bill and Alice were blessed with five beautiful children, William R. Schurman II (deceased), Stacy Jayne (Muinzer, husband Mike (deceased), Suzanne (Mattern, husband Jim), Mary Alice (Christopher, husband Gary) and Elizabeth (Libby Rottler, deceased). Before her death, Alice was again gifted with 15 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren.

Alice was an active and compassionate volunteer of the Pink Ladies at Home Hospital and served on the board for the Tippecanoe County Welfare Department. She took up cross stitching and made dozens of pieces of art that still adorn our walls.  She was known as “Mother Schurman” at the Lafayette Country Club for all her work as a judge or timer for the swim team.  She continued her love of reading until she discovered GOLF.  Alice became an avid golfer and excelled in the sport.  As a member of LCC, she played on both the 9 hole and 18 hole womens leagues.  She was a proud member of OLGA, and even played in several pro/amateur tournaments.

At age 64, after the death of her husband, Alice, a lifelong resident of Lafayette, packed up her life and moved to Vero Beach, Florida.  After several years she relocated to Satellite Beach, Florida to be closer to her son.  Her ocean front condo made it a great place for kids and grandkids to travel to for vacations and Spring Break.  Many treasured memories were made during that time period.  And many epic tales were written.

Alice met every adventure with an open mind and adapted easily to new places and situations.

She will be sorely missed.
