Alfred W. Westergard, age 88 of Norwalk, died on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Norwalk Hospital. Born in Denver, Colorado, the son of Alfred and Mabel (Heitzhausen) Westergard, he was the husband of Harriet (Alexandris) Westergard. He served in WWII on the US Coast Guard ship the “Duane” in the North Atlantic and afterwards worked for the Piney Bowes Corporation, Shick Razor and Clairol as a Mechanical Designer . Al formerly had his pilots license and flew Piper Cubs, was a competative Archer and was active with the American Legion where he attended many parades and ceremonies honoring war veterans. Al was an artist and practiced pencil drawing and model building and was a skilled craftsman with machinery as well as carpentry.
In addition to his wife of 64 years, he is survived by 3 sons, Craig, Chris and Gary Westergard, a daughter Karen Westergard and 2 grandchildren, Jillian and Elizabeth. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Bob Westergard and 2 sisters, Alice Clausen and Janet Overton.
