Alfred Tilden Leigh Sr., 85, of Harvest, AL, departed this earthly life on Monday, March 14, 2011. Born in Griffin, GA, on August 13, 1925, to Johnson and Maggie Leigh, he grew up in Thomaston, GA. After enlisting in the navy at the age of 17 during WWII, he served on the USS Randolph, a plank owner, until the end of the war. He married Flossie Westfaul of Moss Point, MS, on March 17, 1946. They moved to Huntsville, AL in 1952, where Alfred was employed in Optical Aliegnment by NASA at Marshall Space Flight Center until he retired. Preceeded in death by his wife, Flossie, Alfred is survived by three children, Jackie Iglehart of Downingtown, PA, Tilden Leigh of Birmingham, AL, and Valerie Deluca of Madison, AL. His children have given him 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He outlived his sister Betty Myrick of Warner Robbins, GA, and his brother Bobby Leigh of Macon, GA. He is survived by his siblings Faye Rainwater of Jonesboro, GA, Shirley Owsley of Thomaston, GA, Larry Leigh of Helena, GA, and Bruce Leigh of Moultrie, GA. While raising an active family, Alfred volunteered with the Boy Scouts, Little League, Red Cross, and at his church, University Baptist Church. He and Flossie served a 2 week mission in Puerto Rico building a chapel there. They were both active in the VFW #2702 and American Legion and traveled to several USS Randolph ship reunions across the country. They shared a love of square dancing, bowling, and gardening, Alfred achieving Master Gardener.
