Freeport- Alfred F. Washburn, age 92 died Tuesday, October 23rd at Liberty Village – Manor Court. He was born January 22, 1926 in Freeport, Illinois to Alfred Sr. and Lillian (Ruthe) Washburn. He graduated in 1944 from Freeport High School. He served in the U.S. Navy (World War II Veteran) from 1944-1946. He married Shirley (Kuhlmyer) on September 17, 1950 in Pearl City, IL.
He was employed at the Freeport Fire Department (Retiring as Assistant Fire Chief) from 1947-1976. He then went onto Stephenson County Zoning as the Administrator and ESDA Coordinator from 1977-1991. He was also a Stephenson County Board Member from 1995-2001. Some may remember him working at Cub Foods also in his later years. He was a member of the Germania Club of Freeport, the AmVets, VFW and 1st Lutheran Church of Freeport.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Freeport. His daughters, Sally (Joel) Manus and Mary (Dan) Lashinski both of Freeport. His grandchildren are Eric (Alicen) Manus and their children Ethan, Emma and Elijah of Arlington Heights, IL. Dr. Mrs. Lisa Manus (Andrew Schanck) of Lawrenceville, N.J., Stacy Lashinski of Freeport and Sarah (Daniel) Scheider and their children Ella and Wyatt of Freeport, IL. He also has a Sister-in-law, Joan Kuhlmyer of Pearl City, Il as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Wilbur Washburn and Robert Washburn.
