Alex was born June 13, 1939 in Quebec, Canada, son of the late Louis and Marie-Reine (Fortin) Cote.

At age 13, he ran away from home to join the circus. Yes, it really did happen. Leaving the family farm, his parents and 12 brothers and sisters that he loved, and struck out to live the adventure he knew his life would be. At the first opportunity to become the star of the show, he was billed as the “Great Alexander”. The only man to hang himself and live. Alex traveled the globe climbing to great heights and performing daring acrobatics. His signature finale trick was freefalling from heights of 45 to 150 feet catching himself at the bottom of the fall only by the rope noose he had placed around his neck. Forever the daredevil and showman, he brought resounding energy into every room he ever entered. Everything about him seemed bigger than life. Whether he was loading dynamite at a Cote construction job site, or riding his Harley in a fundraiser for the Moose or the Eagles clubs or simply taking over the dance floor, dancing to rock and roll with his lovely wife. The only thing bigger than his energy and personality was his heart. An amazing husband, father and Grandfather. Our real life hero. He loved helping family and friends and quickly became friends with everyone he met. Lovingly nicknamed “Uncle Alex” anyone and everyone would stop by if they needed help and he would always be there. He inspired others to be kind hard working and appreciative of our blessings including each other and citizenship in this great country. Forever the patriot and “proud to be an American.”

In addition to his wife of 59 years, he is survived by his children, Darlene, Paula and Eric. He was predeceased by his son, Joseph. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael, Danielle, Joseph, Logan and Mac; his siblings, Veronica, Edith, Bridgett, Richard, Madeline and Elaine and many nieces and nephews.
