Aletha M. Maticka, age 93 of Midland died Thursday evening December 4, 2014 at Marshall Manor. The daughter of the late August and Louise (Stoecker) Sommer was born October 1, 1921 in Munger, Michigan where she was raised and educated. Aletha married Edward Maticka on August 24, 1946 in Bay City and they moved to Sanford where they resided all of their married life. After 63 years of marriage, Edward predeceased his wife on December 28, 2009. Aletha and Ed owned and operated Edward Maticka Home Builders, Sanford Hardware, Sanford Lumber Yard and were land developers in the Sanford area. They were active participants in the establishment of the Sanford Senior Center. Aletha enjoyed travelling and square dancing. She was a dedicated, loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Maticka is survived by her sons, Michael (Debbie) Maticka of Midland, Edward (Tammy) Maticka of St. George, Utah; grandchildren, Megan Maticka, Derek (Audrey) Maticka, Dana Ureche, Desiree Tirey, Brittany (Matt) Hyatt; 3 great grandchildren and -1- great great grandchild; brother, Earl Sommer; sisters, Bea Carson and Arlene Younker. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brothers Harold and Clarence Sommer.

In keeping with the wishes of Mrs. Maticka private burial has taken place in Jerome Township Cemetery.
