Alec John Skalaban, Sr., 61, beloved father and brother, passed away on August 16, 2018 at Sheriden Woods Health Care Center in Bristol, CT surrounded by his loving family. Alec fought a valiant battle with small cell lung cancer for the past year.
Born in New Britain, CT on December 22, 1956, he was one of the five children to the late Alex J. and Dorothy (Jones) Skalaban. A lifelong resident of Plainville, he attended Plainville High School. He leaves a legacy of hard work, first employed in his father’s business, A.J. Skally and Sons, as a steeplejack. He was also employed by New Brite Textured Ceilings.
Alec enjoyed summers in Old Lyme, CT, where the family owned vacation cottages. He was a true lover of sports, music, cooking, going to Mohegan Sun, and just relaxing and watching a good football game with family. His sense of humor was contagious; he was one of a kind. He will be remembered as a strong, loving, dedicated man to his family, work, and to his friends. He leaves us with a smile and joy in our hearts.
In addition to his son, Alec John Skalaban, Jr., he leaves his faithful fiancé, Kim Smith; his brother and best friend, Gary Skalaban; his sister, Lorraine Stimpson and his brother-in-law, John; special nieces, Tracey Najarian and husband, John, and Melissa Rodriguez; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Biegaj.
Special thanks to the wonderful, loving staff at Sheriden Woods. Your love and care are deeply appreciated by Alec and his family.
