Albert William Whitaker, age 82, slipped gently from the loving arms of his earthly family to the everlasting arms of his heavenly father on Thursday, December 6, 2012, after a heroic battle with Alzheimer”s Disease. Born in Elko, Nevada, on May 8, 1930, he was the son of Albert W. Whitaker, Sr. and Ruby E. Reeder Whitaker. A self made man, Al was on his own at the age of 14 working at the Santa Anita racetrack. A life-long love of horses followed his experiences there. A Veteran of the U. S. Army, Military Police, he served during the Korean War. He then transitioned seamlessly to the water treatment industry in the founding and owning of Whitaker”s Water Conditioning for 27 years. Preceded in death by his parents, Al is survived by his adored wife of 43 years, Mary Albers Whitaker; sons, Brian Whitaker, Jon Whitaker and wife, Mary, and Jason Whitaker and wife, Cara; daughter, Mary Jane Anderson of San Jose, CA; grandchildren, Maya Alexander, Christopher Neary, Benjamin Whitaker, Eli Whitaker, Hanna Whitaker, and Natalie Whitaker; sister, Dolores Doughtery of Ridgefield, Washington; numerous nieces and nephews. Al”s many loves were his family, horses, boating, and summers spent at Medina Lake with special friends. Al was a larger-than-life-figure; a man with a gruff exterior but a heart of gold, he will be missed by many.
