Albert Sidney “Pete†Astin, III, also known by his grandchildren as “Big Papa†70 of 130 Blue Ridge View Dr., Danville went home to be with the Lord after 3 weeks of declining health Thursday June 23, 2011 at Danville Regional Medical Center, Danville. Mr. Astin was born June 13, 1941 in Pittsylvania, Co. to the late Albert Sidney Astin, Jr. and Helen Cassada Astin. Mr. Astin was married to Cynthia Pressley Astin of the residence. He worked for Dan River Mills as a supervisor for 40 years. Mr. Astin was a member of Schoolfield Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served as a deacon and director of the men’s ministry; he also took great joy in serving breakfast each Sunday morning for the Sunday School Department. In addition to his father he was predeceased by his stepson Anthony Paul Brooks. In addition to his wife and mother he is survived by two daughters: Cindi Arnn (Buford) of Keeling, Va. and Angela Dalton (Bill) and son Brian Astin, Sr. (Joanne) of Franklin Co., Va.; one stepson Scott Brooks (Misty) of Danville; one sister Brenda Astin Sumrell (Skip) of Gloucester, Va.; two brothers Thomas Astin (Barbara) of Danville, and Douglas Astin of Reidsville, NC.; he is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
