Albert Semak, Sr., of South Bend, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2006, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
Albert was born on June 17, 1920, in Rankin, PA, to Michael and Mary (Petress) Semak.
Mr. Semak worked for Bendix for 31 years, before retiring in 1975. He resided in this area for most of his life.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Mary; Genevieve Semak; a granddaughter, Stacy D. Charles; and by a brother-in-law, Russell Lewis.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (George,Sr.) Charles of Mishawaka, IN; his three sons, Albert, Jr. (Kandra) Semak of Osceola, IN; Larry Semak of Mishawaka; and Alan (Becky) Semak of South Bend; 10 grandchildren, Michael (Rosie) Semak, Anthony (Debbie) Semak, Anjanette (Mark) Lindeman, George, Jr. (Lorie) Charles, Michelle Bennett, Rodney (Jennifer) Semak, Joshua Semak, Kevin Semak, Sarah Semak and Brandan Semak; 10 great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Mary Alice Lewis of Phoenix, AZ.
Albert was a United States Army Veteran of W.W.I.I. and a member of the D.A.V. He loved people and never knew a stranger. He amazingly told jokes, recited poems and quoted scriptures, always infusing his love for the Lord. He was blessed with the gift of art. Even as he laid bedridden for many years he expressed his passions in wildlife, cartoons, western legends and World War II memories with over 2,000 drawings during that time. Many will remember him as “Cowboy,” the good guy in a white Stetson hat on a Harley riding around town and many people asked how the hat could stay on. He was free spirited, loved life and his family and lived life with zest. He will be sorely missed.
“It is well with my soul,” Lord I’m coming home.”
