Albert Link Pletz, 87 of Centralia passed away on May 30, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. Mr. Pletz was born on March 6, 1925 in Springfield, the son of Joseph Albert & Anna Marie (Hall) Pletz. He married Joan Suddeth on October 27, 1953 in Centralia, where she survives. In addition to his wife he is survived by a son Albert Link Pletz II of Granite City; three daughters Linda Schulte of Salem, Jodi Storey and husband Scott of Opdyke, and Tanya Pletz & special friend James Jackson of Collinsville; seven grandchildren Justin and Kaleb Schulte, Jessica Palazzolo, Christina and Beau Pletz, Noah Bumgardner, and Taylor Storey; six great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Teresa Pletz; one brother David Pletz; one sister Pat Nassau; and father and mother in law Charles and Helen Marie Suddeth. Mr. Pletz served in the Korean War. He served his country for a total of 13 years in the U.S. Army reaching the rank of Sergeant First Class. He taught ROTC at Denby High School in Detroit for several years. After the service, Mr. Pletz worked for the U.S. Postal Service, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and Lanter courier service. Mr. Pletz was a member of the Glenridge Baptist Church. He enjoyed being active in the church for many years. He also enjoyed watching Cubs baseball and was an avid movie fan. Most of all he enjoyed being with his grandkids, family, and his dog Paco.
