Albert H. Yancy, 92, of Springfield, IL, and formerly of Ashland, IL, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at his residence. He was born October 25, 1925, in Prentice, IL, the son of Carl William and Ella (Page) Yancy.  He married Lois Petefish on June 6, 1948 at Berea Christian Church in rural Morgan County and she survives.

He is survived by three children, Marsha Yancy (husband, John Finn) of Winona, MN, Charlotte Kay Skinner of Loami, and Carl William Yancy (wife, Michelle) of Eden Prairie, MN; four grandchildren, Daniel Skinner (wife, Karen) of Springfield, Jonathan Skinner (wife, Brianne) of Atkinson, and Eryn and Jacob Yancy, both of Eden Prairie, MN; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Flinn of rural New Berlin and Betty Ann Price of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Jean Ella Yancy.

Albert graduated from Ashland High School in 1944 and served with the US Marine Corps from 1944-1946 during WW II.  He owned and operated the Yancy Chevrolet dealership in Ashland from 1946 until 1985 when the dealership suffered a devastating fire.  He and his wife, Lois, assumed the ownership of the Hexter and Company department store in Ashland which they owned and operated from 1985 until their retirement in 1998.

Albert was a long-time member and former fire chief of the Ashland Volunteer Fire Department.  He also served several years as the treasurer for the Village of Ashland Board.  He was a 32-year member of the Ashland American Legion Post and a life member of the Ashland VFW Post, serving on many details which provided funeral honors.  He attended the Berea Christian Church and enjoyed playing golf and restoring furniture in his spare time.
