Alan L. ‘Big Al’ Lantz, age 75, Logansport, passed away at 9:24 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2020, in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Indianapolis.

Born July 13, 1945, in Logansport, he was the son of Jacob Eugene and Dorothy Louise Helvie Lantz.

On July 11, 1970, in Logansport, he was married to Carolyn Sue “Sis” Rance, who preceded him in death on September 26, 2009.

Alan retired after 42 years of employment as a heavy machinery mechanic at Engineering Aggregates.

Alan enjoyed many activities, interests and hobbies, both in his younger years and later in life.

Some of the hobbies he enjoyed when he was younger, were bowling, playing euchre, playing horseshoes, attending tractor pulls and building sets for Junior Civic Theater productions.

Later in life he enjoyed attending movies, especially those involving rugged action. Also he enjoyed hosting many parties, solving jigsaw puzzles, model railroad trains, carpentry and mechanical work and assembling Lego constructions.

Most of all he loved his grandchildren and enjoyed and attended all of their sporting, Logansport Children’s Choir and Junior Civic theatrical events. His grandchildren will never forget his dedication to their lives. Over and over, he demonstrated his love for them.

Always highly regarded in the community as a friendly man with a big smile, no one had anything bad to say about him.

His lasting legacy is this: If you put your hope and trust in Jesus Christ, he can turn around any situation.

Alan served his country in the United States Army.

Surviving are three daughters, Carrie Lantz and Cassie (Josh) Bault, all of Logansport, Carollee (Dale) Koekenberg, Monticello; brother, Merril Lantz; sisters, Donna Young, Louanna Harper and Audrey Ray, all of Logansport.

Also surviving are grandchildren, Layla Powell, Amelia Bault, Elijah Bault, Markitta Bault, Grayson Bault, Lance Koekenberg, Alden Koekenberg and Calan Koekenberg; an incredible number of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Preceding in death are siblings, Roy Lantz, Herbert Lantz, Delmar Lantz, Phyllis Merritt and Sherril Gibbs.
