Alan Edward Bliek, age 83, passed away at Aspirus Riverview Hospital on January 29, 2022.

Alan was born January 20, 1939 in Vesper, WI to Martin and Tena (Ennema) Bliek. He was baptized March 12, 1939 and made profession of his faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord on December 14, 1958.

He attended Vesper grade school, and graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids in 1957. He attended Humbolt Business School in Minneapolis after graduating. He was then employed for a short time at C&EI railroad in Chicago, IL. He moved back to central WI and began a long career at Consolidated Papers, later Store Enso, as an accountant. He retired in 2003.

He married Donna Joling on August 19, 1960 in Vesper WI. They settled in Wisconsin Rapids. Alan and Donna were foster parents for Wood County for 28 years. Alan was an office bearer and treasurer of New Hope Community church for over 40 years. Alan enjoyed his hobby of street rodding, his 1937 Chevrolet, and attended the Iola Car Show for many years. He and Donna enjoyed traveling to many historical locations around the country. He was also an avid reader.

 Alan was a kind, gracious, thoughtful, soft spoken person. He set an example for his family of hard work without complaint, even as his health slowly deteriorated. Alan is survived by Donna, his wife of 61 years, children Steve Bliek of Wisconsin Rapids, Tim (Lynn) Bliek of Chippewa Falls, WI, Tom (Karri) Bliek of Green Bay, WI, Deb (Tim) Van’t Hul of Rock Valley, Iowa, foster children that are part of our family Rick (Joanne) Anderson of Grand Rapids, MI and Georgia Kath-Alvarez of El Paso, TX. Grandchildren Andrew Bliek, Isaac (Skylar) Bliek, Olivia Bliek, Nathan Bliek, Aaron Bliek, Megan Bliek, Brandon (Brianna) Van’t Hul, Miranda Van’t Hul, Lucas Van’t Hul, Lauren (Noah) Jager, Emily Anderson, Elijah, Josiah and Hannah Alvarez, and many nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by siblings Martin (Mary) Bliek of Plover, WI, Cathy DeGraaf of Burlington, Ontario, Eldon (Peggy) Bliek of Lake Lure, NC and Marie (Frank) Queener of Geneva, NY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, baby sister Susan, brothersin-law Louis DeGraaf, David VanVuren, Morry Blankespoor and sister-in-law Shirley Englesman.

Memorials in Alan’s honor may be designated to Love INC (Love In the Name of Christ) of South Wood County, or SWEPS, or a charity of your choice.
