Quraeshi, Akila R. Made the peaceful transition on July 4, 2015 at home surrounded by her loved ones.

She is survived by her son, Professor Zahir A. Quraeshi Nalini of Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI and their two sons, Samir and Asim; as well as her daughter, Azra Cardine Claude of France and their two children, Salim Cardine of France and Nadra Cardine Watson Kim of England; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Saida Khan and Jamila Khan; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Born in Poona, British India and a graduate of Wadia College in English Literature, Akila moved to Karachi, Pakistan during Partition, and then later to the United States. She was an avid reader, an enthusiastic traveler in her younger days and was well known for her exquisite needlepoint creations.

As the eldest member of the South Asian community, many flocked to her for her prayers and blessings. The family would like to thank the caring community of friends for the love and support showered on her throughout the 37 years she spent as a resident of Kalamazoo.
