Agnes Stewart will be buried over her father’s grave, Lawrence Paschich in the Knights of Phythius section, Block F, Space 12. Her mother, Jessie May Robertson Paschich Reed, is buried in the adjoining space. Agnes’s sister, Helen Paschich Ferguson is buried over their mother.

Agnes was born November 3, 1919, and she died March 22, 2014, at age 94. We were so lucky to have her with us for so long.

Agnes Paschich was the fourth born of 12 children. All the children, except the oldest son, Bill Paschich, were born in Columbus, New Mexico. Agnes graduated from El Paso High School in 1936. She married Lee Stewart in El Paso, Texas in 1938 and then moved to Los Angeles, California. From the small town of Columbus to the Big City of Los Angeles was a huge culture shock, but she adjusted and learned to enjoy the Hollywood hustle and bustle. Agnes’s sister, Helen, joined her in Los Angeles around 1940 and the sisters were close for their remaining years.

Agnes and Lee had three children: Diane, Nancy, and Bill. They moved to Lakewood, California in 1954. Lee passed away in the mid-70s. Agnes enjoyed her Lakewood home until the early 2000’s when her sister, Helen, had a stroke. Agnes moved into Helen’s house in Santa Monica, California, to care for her.

Agnes was very smart, versatile, and dependable. She worked as a “Car Hop” in the early years. She became a Legal Secretary at Title Insurance and Trust Company. Later, she was the office administrator for the OCAW union office in Long Beach until she retired in the early 80s. She was respected and admired by all.

Agnes stayed active. She played Lots of Golf. She joined a golf group and played several times a week for 30+ years, until she fell and broke her back in 2004. She was 85 years old at the time. She had many trophies and 7 hole-in-ones. The Golf Gals remained close friends and had annual reunions. Agnes also played bridge with two bridge clubs and enjoyed countless family “Heart” marathons. She stayed sharp and competitive all the way to age 93!

After Agnes’s back injury, she moved in with her daughter, Diane, in Bermuda Dunes. She was with Diane for 10 years. Agnes loved living in the desert and often said these were her happiest years. Diane took excellent care of her.

Agnes had quiet, giant, inner strength. She was constantly observant and very wise. Nothing got past her. She kept close tabs on her children and grandchildren. She saw what was needed, and she was there to assist whenever she could. She was gracious, loving, and kind, and also a very tough lady who didn’t complain. We all miss her, but we know she is happy now, and at peace.
