Agnes Lorene Birkenholz, the daughter of Frele and June Belle (Harden) Keating, was born August 12, 1921 in Montezuma, IA. She graduated from Montezuma High School and attended AIB in Des Moines. Agnes was united in marriage with Carroll M. Birkenholz on July 24, 1948 in Kansas City, MO. They were blessed with two children, Janet and David.
Agnes enjoyed doing cross-stitch and crocheting. She also enjoyed playing the organ and dancing. Agnes enjoyed working crossword puzzles and reading. She had a soft spot for cats and liked to travel. Agnes was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Agnes passed away Friday, September 12, 2008 at Nelson Manor Nursing Home in Newton at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her husband Carroll, in 2005. Agnes is survived by her daughter, Janet Miller of Depoe Bay, OR; son, David (Shirley) Birkenholz of Newton; and her two grandchildren, Sara and Brian.
