NEW HARTFORD –CARITEY – Adele E. Caritey, 86, passed away on January 6, 2022. She was the devoted wife of the late Joseph A. Caritey for 52 years. Born January 30, 1935 in Flushing Queens, NY; the daughter of the late Eugene and Anna (Ey) Carlson. Adele was one of thirteen children. She grew up on a farm where her great love of horses and land began. At the age of eighteen, she was asked the choice between a car and a horse and she happily bought a horse and named her Ginger. Her great passion of horses lasted her entire life. Adele married Joe in 1964 and together in 1974, they proudly built their homestead in New Hartford. They cherished their home, town and community. Adele worked at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital as a Medical Secretary for many years and at New Hartford Pizza where she felt like family with coworkers and customers alike. She also was an avid Red Sox fan sharing her love of the team and the game with her beloved grandson, Hunter. In 2017, she got to experience with him walking out onto Fenway Park and watching Hunter run the baseline. Adele was small but mighty and her sly sense of humor, dedicated work ethic and feisty but endearing personality will be deeply missed. She was just truly a special lady. She is survived by her two close daughters, Laura Caritey and husband David Wood of MA and Holly Caritey of New Hartford; grandson, Hunter Wood of MA; sister, Marie Seamon of NY; close niece and best friend, Fran Doyle of NC and husband Michael; many nieces, nephews and friends. She also leaves her two beloved rescue cats, Chauncey and Joby. In addition to her loving husband, she was predeceased by eleven siblings, Harold, Eugene, Thomas, Clifford, Dorothy, Alfred, Ann, William, Warren, Lindsley and infant sister, Olive and her equally feisty dog, Dean who passed in November at the age of seventeen.
